The Knowledge Manager
Building Systems Under Pressure
My journey into knowledge management began out of necessity, not theory. Early in my career at Front Gate Tickets, I watched talented teams struggle with the same problems repeatedly because critical knowledge lived only in people's heads. When those people left or were unavailable, operations suffered.
I started documenting processes, not because it was my job, but because it was the only way to ensure consistent results at scale. What began as survival evolved into expertise as I discovered I had a talent for translating complex operational knowledge into systems that others could follow and improve upon.
Over the next decade, I refined this approach across four different organizations, each presenting unique challenges:
Building from scratch at Austin Parks Foundation, where I created comprehensive knowledge frameworks for an organization that had none
Managing complexity at OneLive Media, where I documented technical systems across multiple time zones and platforms
Scaling excellence at Wine & Food Foundation, where I systematized knowledge for 50+ annual productions worth hundreds of thousands of dollars
What Makes My Approach Different…
I understand the user's reality. Having been the person desperately searching for a procedure at 11 PM before a major event, I design knowledge systems that actually get used. My documentation doesn't just capture information—it solves real problems for real people under real pressure.
I think in systems, not documents. My technical communication background taught me that good information design is about more than clear writing. It's about creating interconnected systems where knowledge flows naturally and users can find what they need when they need it.
I've proven impact at scale. Many KM professionals work on systems that support dozens of users. I've built frameworks that enabled teams to successfully manage operations serving 100,000+ participants, with measurable success rates and budget accountability.
My Philosophy
Knowledge Management isn’t about creating perfect documentation, it’s about reliable outcomes. The best knowledge system is the one that enables your team to deliver consistent results even when facing new challenges or working with new people.
This philosophy drives everything I do:
User-centered design: If people don’t use it, it doesn’t work
Iterative design: Knowledge systems are living artifacts and should improve with use
Scalable frameworks: Solutions should work for teams of 5 or 500
Practical implementation: Theory means nothing without real-world results
Beyond Work
I earned my Master’s degree in Technical Communication and Rhetoric from Texas Tech University, where I developed the theoretical foundation that supports my practical experience. This combination of academic rigor and operational reality gives me a unique perspective on how knowledge really moves through organizations.
When I’m not systematizing organizational knowledge or producing events, you’ll find me exploring Austin’s awesome food scene (occupational hazard), learning new tools for professional development, or picking up a new skill—pottery anyone?
What I’m Looking For
I'm seeking senior knowledge management leadership roles—Director, Senior Manager, or Principal Consultant positions—where I can leverage my unique combination of strategic KM vision and hands-on operational experience to transform how organizations approach their knowledge assets.
My ideal role involves building or evolving comprehensive KM strategies that enable organizations to scale their expertise, preserve institutional knowledge, and create competitive advantages through superior information systems. Whether that's leading a KM team, serving as a strategic consultant, or being the first dedicated KM professional in a growing organization, I'm drawn to opportunities where knowledge management drives measurable business outcomes.
I'm open to all settings—corporate, nonprofit, consulting firms, or contract engagements—and thrive in environments where my operational background helps bridge the gap between KM theory and practical implementation that actually works under pressure.
Let’s Work Together
I’m passionate about helping organizations unlock the knowledge they already have and building systems that make that knowledge actionable. Whether you’re scaling rapidly, managing complex operations, or simply tired of watching good ideas disappear when people leave, I’d love to discuss how strategic knowledge management can transform your organization.
